WILLIAM LEWIS BOYS HOME

William Lewis Boys Home, Mawphlang is a Home set up by the KhasiJaintia Presbyterian Assembly through S.E.L.D.A. to cater the needs of Boys orphans who are in need of parental care support. It aims to ensure with full protection against all forms of neglect, cruelty and exploitation. God has given the vision to the Church through the Social Economic Life Development Association of the KJP Assembly to established the home for the orphans who are in need to meet their prime needs for shelter, food, clothing and education.


The Home was registered under section 34 (3) of the Juvenile Justice (care and protection) Amendment Act 2006. The Home is working towards the all-round development of the children (6-18 years) who are in need of care and protection. It serves to provide physical, social, economic, psychological, emotional and spiritual support to all the children of the Home. The Home runs with continuous initiative through dedication of selfless staffs and other partakers who aims to meet the welfare of each child. The inauguration of the Home in Mawphlang on 7 th May 2005 by Rev William McCulloch (Rome Italy) marked the foundation milestone of the Church to leave a commendable and appreciated service.


THE INCEPTION

Boys begin their stayed in A.W. Thomas Children’s Home in JaiawLumsyntiew, Shillong in 1981 where the Home cater the needs of 4-6 years old orphans (boys &girls) from different areas of East and West Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and RiBhoi Districts. When Boys grows older, segregation has to be made from Girls and this lead to the introduction of S.E.L.D.A. for another project a Home for Boys in Mawphlang. A Home was established on 1 st March 2005 and was formerly inaugurated by Rev William McCulloch of Rome Italy on 7 th May 2005. The number of children was increasing and additional building is needed for the growth of all the children. Additional Building was then constructed and it was inaugurated by Mr Bernard Mullane on 25 th April 2006. The children was raised to have a bright future with proper care of providing proper clothing, nutritious, food, formal schooling, health care facilities etc. It is a continuous endeavor for the Home to provide a commendable services for the welfare of all the children.


In the beginning there were only 25 women who are only locals and who range from different District of Mehghalaya. All the responsibilities like taking fees, and the necessary requirement of the hostel was run by the office if the KJP Synod under the care and observation of Mrs. Angel Shullai. The daily requirements for the smooth functioning of the hostel was handed over to Mrs. Polin Bareh.
